Hello, I am so happy to meet you! I am sure before we get started working together, you probably want to know a bit more about me, my story and my why.
My struggle with health started at a very young age, in fact the day after I was born. A few years later I was diagnosed with asthma, because doctors couldn’t label it anything else. I was on and off prescription medications designed to control it, but each time we would try something new I would have an attack.
When I was in grade two I was told I had acid reflux and started chewing antacids like they were candy. Only a few years later, at the age of 15, I had to be rushed to the hospital because I was in so much pain and unable to breath. After watching my father say his goodbye, my parents not thinking I would make it through the night, they discovered that it was gall stones. All I needed was to have my gall bladder removed. We now figure that it started back when I was “too young” to have gall bladder issues.
These are just a few health situations I have found myself in over the years. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard the words “You are a miracle, we have no idea how you are still alive”. I take this as a complement, I am a miracle as are YOU.
I grew up figure skating, taking part in curling, volleyball, dance and cheer-leading (as long as it didn’t interfere with skating, I lived to be on the ice). All after being told by doctors that I should live in a bubble and not do anything that put strain on my lungs. They claimed it was too dangerous. I should live without stuffed animals, without going outside, without anything that collected dust and without really having a childhood. I have a mother who would not let this happen. She wanted a child who lived. She wanted me to have a childhood. She accepted the risks when she enrolled me in all the sports I took part in and when she let me outside to play with my friends. She taught me to know my limits, when I could push myself and when I had to sit out. I am happy she let me participate, there is so much that I would have missed out on.
She became certified in Reflexology after seeing improvements in herself using this technique, and started working my feet every couple days. We took time to visit Naturopathic Doctors and Herbologists. We made dietary changes that were suggested and started down the path of Holistic healing. It wasn’t long until we saw improvements. I still made sure I had my rescue inhaler nearby, because we knew it was a huge risk not to, but with the improvements that were being made I needed it a lot less often.
On top of all the physical issues I was having, there were quite a few mental/emotional things that started weighing on me as well. From a young age I had to deal with bullying and harassment by peers at school, as well as adults who should have known better. I had the philosophy that only “Hurt people hurt people”. Over time I started to forget this though and started to take things to heart rather than feel the compassion that the situation called for. In college I had to deal with more situations that tipped things over the edge and before I knew it I was dealing with so much social anxiety that leaving the house was incredibly difficult. It took me a year and a half of leaving my apartment only when absolutely necessary to reach out for help. It was during this time that I was introduced to Tapping (EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique). There were days that using this technique was the only way I was able to get out the door to make it to my therapy appointment. It was a combination of a good therapist and tapping that helped get me out of the house.
Even now I still have moments when I go to reach for the door handle and something will come up for me. A memory, a reason not to leave the house, a reason to shut the world out. But with tapping in my toolkit, I always make it out the door. Today I am a Reiki Master, a Natural Nutrition student and working towards being an Emotional Freedom Technique practitioner because I know how all of these tools have changed my life and I love working with others who want to make a positive change in theirs.
I believe everyone deserves optimal health, a life of freedom and self-love, and the chance to shine. I am not a doctor, or a Psychologist so I cannot diagnose or treat an illness. But I can work with you and I know I can make a difference in your life. We all need support from time to time, someone to keep us on track, to make suggestions and to remind us how miraculous we really are. I will be that support.
